Secure Patient Records Destruction

Healthcare organisations are the trusted legal custodians of their patients’ medical records, history, X-rays, CAT and MRI scans. It’s critical that they ensure ongoing compliance to State and National laws on patient records management and destruction.

Safe, Sustainable, Secure Medical Records Shredding

At Corporate Document Destruction we take all of our document destruction jobs very seriously. And none more so than medical records shredding. We can organise discreet and secure pick up at your doctor’s office, surgery, aged care centre, or hospital in a secure vehicle. Patient records will be taken to our secure shredding facility and shredded immediately. You will be provided with a Certificate of Destruction upon completion.

Our shredding service includes the secure destruction and recycling of almost any kind of medical records:

  • All private patient details: name, address, etc.
  • Records of all surgical and medical procedures
  • Medication history and test results
  • X-rays and scans (CAT, MRI)
  • Health insurance information
  • … All materials recycled where possible

How long should you keep patient records before destruction?

Medical records should be retained as per your profession’s relevant State or National legislation:

  • Doctors (GP’s, psychologists etc.) medical records for adults must be kept for at least seven (7) years, and,
  • Up to twenty five (25) years for children (from the date of the last contact).
  • Dentists are required to retain patient records for 7–10 years, depending on local state privacy laws.
