Even though the Scheme refers to ‘data’--including all digitized data on computer hard drives and servers--it also includes data in a physical form such as prescriptions, notepads, post-it notes, plastic bags with labels, and pill bottles etc. If you suffer a data breach and your pharmacy is in non-compliance of the scheme, it could cost you and your business a fine of up to $1.8 million, not to mention causing serious harm to your patients.
